Autism Support Groups and Online Forum

Autism Sussex is launching two new Autism Support Groups in Eastbourne funded by East Sussex County Council.

The Adults Group is for everyone aged 16 and over, with Asperger Syndrome, high functioning Autism and related conditions (if applicants represent a wide age range, a separate group may be established). The Group will provide an opportunity for people to become part of a social network, where experiences can be shared and support provided, in a positive engaging environment. Groups can discuss topics chosen by group members, such as work, education, family and community life and sessions will be run by facilitators with extensive experience of working with people with Autism.

There will also be an opportunity for the group to organise two social days out and also for members to arrange a small number of 1:1 sessions with one of the facilitators, to discuss specific issues.

Meetings are in the Ocklynge Room at Community Wise, Ocklynge Road, Eastbourne BN21 1PY on Wednesday evenings from 6pm to 8pm once a month from 26th June 2013. Autism Sussex is launching two new Autism Support Groups in Eastbourne funded by East Sussex County Council.

The Parents and Carers’ Group is for parents and carers of people with Autism to share experiences and provide support to one another in an empathetic forum. It will also provide an opportunity to engage with specialist advisors to discuss topics chosen by members (e.g. welfare benefits, relationships or behaviour support). The group will be facilitated by a parent of someone with Autism and experience in running parent groups with occasional input from a professional Autism specialist.
